Well hello there adventure seeker!

Whether you are a travelling family looking for inspiration for your own trips or are living vicariously through our travels, we’re glad you’re here!!

Let us introduce ourselves to you!

We’re kinda a weird family.  We don’t own big screen TVs, fancy electronics or an impressive house.  All three of our cars together do not even come close to totaling $10,000.  We choose to spend every extra penny we can scrape together on travelling.  It is our favorite thing to do together as a family – it feeds our souls, brings us together and changes our perspective on the world around us.

So who are we?

I’m Mom and the voice of this blog.  I am also the one who schemes and dreams up travel destinations and then badgers the rest of the family until they get on board.  What?!?  If mama ain’t happy, ain’t NOBODY happy…………. I love books, wine, old movies, dancing, theatre, cake and tulips. I also like to curse.  A lot.  This is a site on family travel.  That absolutely does not mean that you should let your children read this filth.  I hate narrow-mindedness and seafood.  In that order.

Our financier.  He works in an industry where there are often grueling hours of overtime.  In order to help him mentally endure, I often choose a trip and dangle it in front of him as a picture of what he’s working so hard for and his well deserved reward at the end.  I’m a good wife like that.  He loves brewing beer and picking crap up off the curb that he then sneaks into the garage and spends the next 5 months trying to convince me is treasure.

Sarcastic teenage son.  Seriously, this kid treats sarcasm as a finely defined art form. It’s EXHAUSTING! Ian loves his XBOX, pasta and dub step.  He is very laid back and Zen which either makes him wonderful to travel with or horrible to travel with.  I’m still trying to decide.  He will have just finished up his welding certificate right before we leave on this trip.

Me: “Hey Ian.  What do you want to eat?”

Ian:  “Food.”

Me: “What kind of food?”

Ian: “I don’t care.”

Me: Seriously, Mexican or Chinese?”

Ian: “Either one is fine.”

Me: “Or we can stay home and eat those leftover containers of food that are crawling around in the back of the fridge.”

Ian:  “Yeah, that’s ok too.”

Me: “ACK!!!”

And then I hit the vodka to try to dull the pain.  Kidding.  Mostly.

Super sweet teenage daughter.  This girl looooves to research and plan trips. She is a reading fool and loves cooking, history and gyros.  She also gets the hiccups more than any kid I’ve ever met.   She’ll be a Junior in high school while we are traveling and will be doing her coursework online.  This is going to prove to be a learning process for all of us.

On our site, you’ll find

  • Stories, pictures and anecdotes about our travels.  They will make you laugh.  A lot.  We’re ridiculous.
  • Suggestions on where to go, where to stay, what to do, travel gear, how to best determine what kind of travel family you are and other priceless bits of information to encourage you to plan your own kickass adventures.
  • Ideas on how to make a difference in the world – while you travel and in between trips as well – through volunteering, fund raising and education.  We are so blessed to have the luxury of things like clean safe drinking water, sanitation and medicine in this country.  We think that we should pay some of that forward.  Making the world a better place to live  adds depth and richness to our travels and shows our kids how blessed they are to have the things they take for granted every day.
  • Inspiration.  Lots of it.  Because travel is one of the most life affirming and life changing gifts you can give to yourself and your kids.  It will change you.  It will make you better.  It will leave an indelible mark on your spirit.  And that should be celebrated.

So buckle up folks.

You’re in for a delicious, juicy, sexy,

amazingly epic ride through our travels.

(Every SINGLE one of those adjectives was featured in a post I just read about the top 25 words NOT to use while writing a blog post.  I’m a rebel like that).
